National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education
The Teacher Education Unit at the University of Maine Farmington is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), 2010 Massachusetts Ave., NW, Suite 500, Washington, DC 20036; phone (202) 466-7496. This accreditation covers all initial teacher preparation programs and our Master’s of Science in Educational Leadership is currently preparing for NCATE review. NCATE is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit programs for the preparation of teachers and other professional school personnel. Our next review will be in the Fall of 2010.

New England Association of Schools and Colleges
The New England Association of Schools and College’s is a regional accreditation agency. University of Maine at Farmington is already accredited by NEASC. The Master’s of Education Program has begun the NEASC accreditation cycle, and the MSEd program will be reviewed in an on-site visit in the Fall of 2009, and will be part of our institutional review in the Spring of 2012.

Data Collection System: Tk20
Programs in teacher education are committed to the rigorous quality that national accreditation requires. By using TK20, a computer based assessment system to collect data we are able to document how well our programs prepare candidates to become educational leaders who are prepared to teach and lead in the 21st century. The systematic assessment of our programs and the unit supported by TK20 is essential as a way to document student performance in key areas of the program and all faculty and students use the system throughout their academic career at UMF.
